Privacy Policy
Skim ("the App") is an RSS reader provided by the developer ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the App handles and how.
Summary
Skim does not collect, transmit, or sell personal data. There is no Skim account, no Skim server, no analytics, and no advertising. All your feeds, articles, settings, and AI provider credentials are stored locally on your device.
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
- Feeds and articles: URLs you subscribe to and the article content fetched from them.
- Read state and tags: which articles you've read, saved, or marked.
- Settings: appearance preferences, AI provider configuration, API keys you choose to enter.
- Optional cached AI summaries generated by your configured provider.
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly act to make it leave (e.g., exporting OPML, sharing an article, or invoking an AI feature that sends content to a third-party AI provider you configured).
Network Activity
Skim makes network requests only for these purposes:
- Fetching feeds: the App downloads content directly from the RSS/Atom URLs you subscribe to. These requests go to the publishers of those feeds; we do not proxy or log them.
- Fetching favicons and article images from the publishers' servers.
- AI features (optional): if you configure an AI provider in Settings (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Ollama, Apple Foundation Models), summarization and chat features send the relevant article text and your prompt from your device directly to that provider's API. Skim does not run any backend, does not log prompts or responses, and does not relay them through any Skim servers. The request is constructed and dispatched on-device.
- Feedly sync (optional): if you connect a Feedly account, the App communicates directly with Feedly's servers using OAuth.
- App update checks via the App Store; standard Apple platform behavior.
Third-Party Services
When you choose to use one, the third party's privacy policy governs your data with them. We are not a party to that relationship. Common providers users may configure:
- Anthropic (privacy policy)
- OpenAI (privacy policy)
- OpenRouter (privacy policy)
- Feedly (privacy policy)
- Apple Foundation Models — runs on-device, no data leaves your iPhone.
API Keys and Credentials
API keys you enter for AI providers, and OAuth tokens from Feedly sign-in, are stored locally on your device. They are not transmitted to us. Use the in-app sign-out / clear-key controls to remove them.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Last updated" date and post the revision at this URL. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
